did you know...

In English, as in many other languages, Arabic digits are used. They are called "Arabic", because they cameto Europe via the Arabic language, but also in order to distinguish them from the Roman digits (I, II, III, IV, V etc).

In modern Arabic, Hindi digits are used. But there are Arabic countries that use "our" Arabic digits.

In Persian (Farsi), Farsi digits are used. With the exception of "4", "5" and "6", the Persian digits are indentical to the Hindi digits.

Also the modern Hindi language got it's own digits. But those digits are not similiar to the Hindi digits in Arabic...

Other languages who got their own digits are Thai and Burmese.

In Japan and China, Arabic digits are used. But in Japanese and Chinese they also write numbers with characters – in the same way as we can write numbers in letters.
